Bayshore Medical Center Performs its First Intellijoint Hip Replacement

Holmdel, NJ - Hackensack Meridian Health Bayshore Medical Center today announced that the hospital is now utilizing the Intellijoint HIP System.

Intellijoint is an optical navigation system used during total hip replacement surgeries to ensure that the correct size implant is used resulting in equal leg lengths. This helps prevent readmissions or revisions due to dislocations related to discrepancy in the size of the implant.

“This technology is a huge step forward for Bayshore Medical Center,” said Frank Citara, chief operating officer of Bayshore Medical Center. “It will really benefit our hip replacement patients and offer them peace of mind in knowing the procedure will be done right the first time.”

The system can also be used for corrective purposes. During a revision total hip replacement, Intellijoint HIP helps the surgeon pinpoint the cause of symptoms and determine which implants need to be removed or modified. Intraoperative measurements guide the surgeon in accurately positioning the new implants. Intellijoint HIP can assist in bone preservation where possible and reduces the risk of re-revision caused by dislocation.

“I am confident that Intellijoint will significantly improve the hip replacement experience for my patients,” said Robert Borzio, M.D. who performed the first Intellijoint procedure at Bayshore Medical Center on November 28th. “The system helps ensure that the patient has equal leg lengths and the components are appropriately placed, reducing the chances of any complications further down the road.”
