Meridian ACO Delivers Quality Care to Its Beneficiaries

Meridian’s Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) Accountable Care Organization (ACO) posted an impressive quality score for performance year 2018. The Meridian ACO achieved a 91.86%, of the highest in its history.

“Thanks to the hard work of its physicians and team, the Meridian ACO was below the national average for inpatient hospital stay and emergency department utilization,” said Michael Lospinuso, M.D., FACS, director of the Meridian Health ACO. “This ACO is helping its patients live healthier, active lives.”

The Meridian ACO also saw a significant decrease in skilled nursing facility use.

“While the Meridian ACO did not meet the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) benchmark for shared savings, the ACO continually achieves major quality goals,” said James Clarke, M.D., chairman of the Meridian ACO Board. “The team continues to deliver high-caliber care to its growing number of Medicare patients.”

The Meridian ACO has been part of CMS’ Medicare Shared Savings Program for six years and has consistently achieved strong quality results. Medicare ACOs are comprised of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers, who work together to provide coordinated, quality care to their Medicare patients. The goal of each ACO to ensure patients get the right care at the right time while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors.
