Cardiovascular Research and Clinical Trials

Improving Heart Care Through Cutting-Edge Research

Hackensack Meridian Health is at the forefront of cardiovascular research, offering groundbreaking clinical trials at two premier locations: Hackensack University Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Our commitment to pioneering treatments ensures our patients have access to the most advanced care available.

APOLLO Clinical Trial for Mitral Regurgitation (MR)

One of our exciting trials is the Medtronic APOLLO Clinical Trial, which tests a new device called the Intrepid Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement System (TMVR). This device helps people with moderate-to-severe mitral regurgitation (MR), a condition where the heart's mitral valve doesn't close properly, causing blood to flow backward. Many patients with MR can't have traditional surgery or use other treatments like the MitraClip™. The Intrepid TMVR offers a new, minimally invasive option that could improve their quality of life.

This trial is one of only two in New Jersey, making it a unique opportunity for eligible patients.

Why Is This Important?

Mitral regurgitation can cause symptoms like fatigue, irregular heartbeats and shortness of breath. With the Intrepid TMVR, blood can flow properly through the heart again, helping alleviate these symptoms.
