Our team performs diagnostic procedures in a comfortable office setting or as an outpatient procedure. These procedures help us understand the cause of your symptoms and determine the best course of treatment.

• Colposcopy: If you have an abnormal Pap smear result, this procedure uses a magnifying tool to get a closer look at the cervix or vulva. A biopsy (tissue sample) is sometimes taken at the same time.
• Cervical Biopsy: Often done during a colposcopy, this is a procedure where a small piece of tissue is taken from the cervix to be examined for abnormalities.
• Endometrial Biopsy: A procedure where a tissue sample is taken from the lining of your uterus to be checked for abnormal cells.
• Hysteroscopy: This procedure uses a thin, lighted tube inserted into the uterus to find the causes of uterine bleeding, infertility, and other uterine issues. It is performed in an outpatient surgery center.
• IUDs and Contraceptive Implants: These are long-lasting birth control options that can be placed easily and quickly in our office.
• Sonohysterogram: A procedure that uses ultrasound and saline fluid to allow surgeons to look at the fallopian tubes and uterus.
• Hysterosalpingogram: This diagnostic procedure uses dye and X-rays to look at the uterus and fallopian tubes.
• Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP): In this procedure, a heated wire loop is used to remove abnormal tissue from the cervix.

Our gynecologic surgeons are skilled in minimally invasive techniques, which can result in shorter hospital stays, less bleeding, and faster recovery times. We also perform several gynecologic robotic surgeries.

• Endometrial ablation: This non-invasive procedure uses heat, electricity, or freezing to reduce or stop heavy uterine bleeding.
• Myomectomy: A procedure to remove uterine fibroids without removing the uterus.
• Ovarian Cyst Removal: An ovarian cyst can be removed in a minimally invasive procedure that uses smaller incisions to remove the cyst while preserving the ovary.
• Cervical Conization: The removal of a piece of cervical tissue to diagnose or treat cervical dysplasia or cancer.
• Dilation and Curettage (D&C): A minimally-invasive procedure to treat abnormal uterine bleeding or to remove tissue from the uterus after a miscarriage or abortion.
• Dilation and Evacuation (D&E): Similar to a D&C, this procedure uses suction and instruments to remove uterine contents.
• Laparoscopic Surgery: A minimally invasive technique that uses small incisions and a tiny camera to perform hysterectomies, remove fibroids, and treat endometriosis.
• Robotic-Assisted Surgery (da Vinci®): An advanced laparoscopic technique where surgeons use robotic arms for enhanced precision, visualization, and control during complex procedures like endometriosis surgery, ovarian cystectomy, and myomectomy. Benefits include:

  • Lower risk of converting to open surgery

• Hysteroscopy: An incision-free procedure where a slim scope is used to diagnose and treat fibroids, polyps, and causes of abnormal bleeding from inside the uterus.
• Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA): A modern fibroid treatment that uses targeted heat to shrink fibroids without major surgery.
  • Acessa®: A laparoscopic fibroid treatment using radiofrequency heat to destroy fibroids through tiny abdominal incisions.
  • Sonata®: An incision-free fibroid treatment that delivers radiofrequency energy through the vagina to shrink fibroids, allowing for a next-day recovery. 

A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, often performed for conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, cancer, and more. Depending on the type of Hysterectomy, women may not have their menstrual cycle or be able to get pregnant.

• Total Hysterectomy: Removes both the uterus and the cervix. Women can no longer become pregnant following the procedure.
• Partial Hysterectomy: Removes most of the uterus but leaves the cervix in place.
• Radical Hysterectomy: Removes the uterus, cervix, surrounding tissue, and lymph nodes. This is performed to treat gynecologic cancers such as cervical or uterine cancer.

Urogynecology and pelvic floor procedures address disorders that can cause urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and fecal incontinence.

• Bladder Suspension (Bladder Lift): Supports the bladder and urethra by attaching them to nearby tissue or ligaments.
• Genitourinary Fistula Repair: A procedure to repair abnormal openings between the urinary and genital tracts.
• Sacral Colpopexy: Treats pelvic organ prolapse by attaching the top of the vagina to the lower spine with mesh to keep everything in place.
• Urethral Sling: To treat stress urinary incontinence, a mesh sling is placed under the urethra and bladder neck for support.
• Cystocele and Rectocele Repair: Restores the bladder (cystocele) and rectum (rectocele) to their normal positions within the pelvic area.

• Risk-reducing Gynecologic Cancer Surgery: For individuals at high risk for gynecologic cancer, a procedure like a salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) may be performed to remove ovaries and fallopian tubes.
• Vulvectomy: The removal of all or part of the vulva, typically to treat cancer or other vulvar diseases.
• Vaginectomy: The removal of the vaginal walls to treat vaginal cancer.
