Program Overview

HUMC PGY1 Pharmacy ResidencyHackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) is the home of two well-established ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency programs. The PGY1 residency program was established in 2001 and the PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency program was established in 2013. The pharmacy department at HUMC recognizes the value and need for residency training in preparing individuals for careers in clinical pharmacy practice. Over the course of the residency year, our residents are exposed to an exceptional variety of rotation experiences with diverse patient populations. The clinical pharmacy specialists who serve as preceptors have trained at institutions across the country and help create a robust learning environment for residents. HUMC is also at the forefront of technological innovation with respect to electronic medical record software, automated dispensing cabinets, and medication management.

The primary goal of each residency program is to provide practical clinical training while also providing the resident exposure to research and administration. The resident will have the opportunity to interact with diverse medical teams to build medication management skills to optimize the role of the pharmacist in patient-centered care. Our programs foster professionalism by exhibiting commitment to the profession through lifelong learning, monitoring our own performance, and exercising leadership in improving the safety of the medication-use system.
