Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship | Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Program Overview

Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC) in Neptune, New Jersey stands out as the Jersey Shore’s premier not-for-profit health care facility. Hackensack Meridian Health has consistently been rated among the top performing health systems in New Jersey for clinical quality. Jersey Shore University Medical Center houses K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital, which provides a rich consult/liaison experience, pediatric neurology and sleep medicine rotations, and a busy psychiatric emergency room. We also have a robust neuromodulation service which provides patients treatment with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and/or Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (d-TMS). Just down the street from Jersey Shore University Medical Center in our community is the Children’s Day Program (partial hospitalization) and the Therapeutic Nursery Program for our youngest patients (0-6 years).

Carrier Clinic joined the Hackensack Meridian Health family in early 2019 to enhance behavioral health services in the tri-state area. With the addition of Carrier Clinic, our program includes acute care hospitalization for adolescents; the East Mountain Lodge, an up to 91 person residential program for ages 13-18 years; and the East Mountain School, an alternative school for up to 120 7th-12th grade students with behavioral and psychiatric disorders.

In addition to inpatient experiences at Carrier Clinic, we offer the experience of working with Jefferson Cherry Hill and their child adolescent psychiatric unit (CAPU) has been serving the southern New Jersey Community for over 40 years. Their 16 bed unit is certified for ages 5 - 17 years and you will work with residents, medical students, attendings, and interdisciplinary care teams including social workers, teachers, nurses and mental health technicians.

With the six core competencies established by the ACGME in mind, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Carrier Clinic has been designed to provide a comprehensive and innovative clinical environment. Fellows will learn to work individually and in interdisciplinary teams with children from infancy through late adolescence; in and with a variety of systems of care; how to approach cases through a developmental lens; and so much more!

As our fellow, your well-being is important to us. At our hospital-wide fellowship orientation, fellows will be educated about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, tips on avoiding burnout, the availability of counseling, and mental health services.
