A Word from Dr. Simcha Weissman DO, Core Faculty Member

Hi, I am a graduate from the current residency program, had the privilege to serve as chief medical resident and become the director for the research society at Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center. I have a strong interest in clinical research, primarily in clinical autoimmune and microbial organismal areas such as C. difficile, Inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and cholestatic liver disease. I focuses on quality of care, guideline management, quality improvement, and patient-centric outcomes.

We have published more than 70 scientific articles in the field of gastroenterology, general internal medicine, and others, in top-tier, high-impact journals including: Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the Journal of Crohns and Colitis, and the American Journal of Gastroenterology. My expertise lies in large-database population-based studies, including cross-sectional analyses, case-control studies, and retrospective cohort analyses. I also have much experience with conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Our team here meets weekly after morning report with our medical students and residents and other faculty, to discuss ongoing projects, explore new ideas and provide didactics to help teach clinical research. This platform is learner friendly and is a safe environment to explore research and keep academically engaged amidst clinical duties. We have been very successful and have had great resident participation in our weekly meetings.

Our Research Committee is led by Dr. Simcha Weissman and Dr. Ayrton Bangolo (PGY-3). The committee meets every Tuesday from 8-8:30 AM.

The goal is to further the residents’ knowledge on the basics of evidence based medicine via a basic and subsequently, an in depth discussion on the various study designs, compilation of research manuscripts, submissions to medical journals, answering the reviewers’ comments, and writing a medical research grant.

Utmost importance is given to the research committee meetings in order to foster the resident researcher to further the growth of evidence based medicine
