If you were born before 2005, you may be hearing this term for the first time - introducing the “Hot Girl Walk”. TikTok is at it again with another viral trend, however, unlike the Benadryl challenge or frozen honey challenge, this one actually has health benefits.

What is a Hot Girl Walk? 

A Hot Girl Walk is simple recipe of 3 things:

  • Take a long walk; the common recommended distance is 4 miles
  • Put on a playlist that will get you pumped up
  • Think about what you’re grateful for, any goals you have for yourself, and of course, how hot you are 

“This is definitely a welcomed fad to see people taking part in,” mentions nurse practitioner Christina Cavalieri. “I always encourage patients to make physical activity a priority, and this can be a fun way for someone to get started.”

What are the health benefits of a Hot Girl Walk? 

Walking can lower your risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and even depression. 

“I think most people already know that physical activity is good for you, but what I really like about this trend is that it considers your mental health as well,” shares Christina. 

“We can get caught up in the day to day hustle and bustle, so if you can take a walk, and think about all the positive things you have in your life, that little bit of gratitude can really improve your overall outlook,” she adds.

Tips to make the most of your Hot Girl Walk

This activity is a simple way to get out, and get moving. To make the most of your time, try these tips: 

  • Get outside. Studies have shown that being outside has proven to reduce cortisol levels, lowering your stress, muscle tension and heart rate. If you can’t be outdoors, a treadmill or any indoor walking is still a good option.
  • Make it a routine. It’s recommended that adults get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week. If you walk 30 minutes five days a week, you’ll hit that quota in no time. 
  • Track your progress. Note how many miles you’ve walked, or your total minutes each day. It will help keep you motivated to get out again the next day. 
  • Stay well-hydrated. Be mindful of the heat, bring a water bottle with you to stay hydrated.
