Pediatric Epilepsy Specialists Appointed to New Roles

Drs. Ségal and Tomycz will continue to care for children with epilepsy across New Jersey and globally

Two pediatric epilepsy specialists at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center — Eric Ségal, M.D., and Luke Tomycz, M.D. — have been appointed to new roles.

Dr. Ségal, a pediatric neurologist and epileptologist, has been named director of Pediatric Epilepsy, and Dr. Tomycz, a pediatric neurosurgeon, has been named director of Pediatric Surgical Epilepsy at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital. In their roles they will continue to provide leading-edge epilepsy care for children across New Jersey and throughout the world.

In addition to his role at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, Dr. Ségal is the Director of Pediatric Epilepsy and Research at Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group based in Hackensack, N.J. He is also the Co-Chief of Epilepsy at Hackensack University Medical Center. Dr. Ségal is an associate professor of pediatrics and neurology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.

Dual fellowship-trained in neurointerventional and pediatric neurosurgery, board-certified by the ABNS and the ABPNS and licensed in New Jersey, Dr. Tomycz has spoken nationally and internationally on the underutilization of surgery for drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE), published original research in Epilepsia, Epileptic Disorders, Seizure, Epilepsy and Behavior, Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, World Neurosurgery, Operative Neurosurgery, Stereotactic Neurosurgery, and other leading journals.
