What to Expect During Your Visit

Here’s a simple outline of what usually happens during your visit:

  1. Identify the issue – We begin by determining whether you’re dealing with allergies, asthma, or an immune condition.

  2. Physical exam – An allergist-immunologist performs a full exam.

  3. Detailed interview – You’ll review your medical and family history, plus your home and work environments.

  4. Diagnosis – Your doctor explains what’s causing your symptoms.

  5. Personalized treatment plan – You’ll go over a care plan designed specifically for your needs.

Types of Allergy Testing We Provide

We provide a wide variety of diagnostic testing such as:

Allergy Skin Test: in which tiny diluted amounts of the suspected allergens are injected under the skin. Within 15 minutes, a skin reaction will occur if the patient is allergic to the substance. The size of the reaction on the skin indicates how sensitive the patient is to the allergen.

RAST Blood Test (Radioallergosorbent Test): measures the body’s reaction to an allergen in the laboratory.

Skin Patch Test: for allergens such as jewelry and cosmetics

ELISA Blood Test: used to evaluate food allergies, and nasal secretion analysis. If you’ve had bad reactions to certain foods, we can confirm this through oral food challenges.

Immune Disorders Care

For people with immune disorders our practice is one of the few facilities in New Jersey to have both a Virology and Special Diagnostic Immunology laboratory. These laboratories use state-of-the-art technology to test for abnormalities in the immune system.

About 1 in 500 people don’t make enough antibodies to protect them, which can cause repeated sinus, lung, or stomach infections. Some people do make antibodies, but either not enough or ones that don’t work the way they should.

Without treatment, these individuals may experience different types of infections. A critical step in the treatment of immune deficiencies is uncovering its existence and we are here to help.

Our Hackensack office is one of the few places in the state with both a Virology and Special Diagnostic Immunology lab. These labs can check for immune system issues, especially when someone makes too few antibodies or antibodies that don’t work well.

Finding these problems early can help explain repeated sinus, lung, or stomach infections.
