Annual Residency Traditions

Intern Welcome BBQ

To conclude intern orientation week, we host a welcome dinner that includes current residents, fellows, and attendings. This tradition provides a warm introduction to the team and an opportunity for new interns to connect with their colleagues and mentors.

Residents are given a day off from clinical duties to participate in an annual retreat, where they will bond together. This retreat includes a one-night stayat Long Beach Island, providing a valuable opportunity for relaxation and team-building away from the clinical setting at the beach.

100 Day Pasta Night

To celebrate the completion of interns' first 100 days of residency, our program director hosts a cherished tradition of inviting the interns to a fun, interactive pasta-making event where they work together to enjoy a collaborative cooking experience.

Friendsgiving and Holiday Party

Our residency program celebrates both Friendsgiving potluck dinner and an annual holiday party, creating cherished traditions that strengthen our camaraderie.
As interns conclude their first year and prepare to transition into their senior roles, we host a special dinner with current seniors. This event is designed to guide interns through the upcoming changes and provide valuable insights on what to expect as they begin their second year as senior residents.

Other notable off campus activities and past events:

  • Hackensack Meridian Health cruise, including residents and fellows from all programs across the network
  • Apple picking / pumpkin painting
  • Match day celebration dinner
  • Game nights
  • Picnics
  • Paint and Sip
  • Bowling
  • Basketball tournament
  • Volleyball
  • Dave and Buster’s

We also take pleasure in the small joys at work, such as Taco Tuesdays during board review sessions, our beloved pet therapy dog, Primo, and festive goodie bags for occasions like Valentine’s Day.
