Speech therapy

Speech therapy can help children communicate better. Reasons your child may be referred to a speech pathologist include:

  • Autism
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Cleft lip or palate
  • Developmental delays
  • Difficulty putting words together in understandable ways
  • Dysphagia (eating and swallowing problems)
  • Hearing impairment (including cochlear implant)
  • Motor speech conditions (apraxia and dysarthria)
  • Post-traumatic brain injuries
  • Receptive and expressive language conditions
  • Resonance conditions
  • Stuttering and disfluency of speech
  • Vocal nodules, strain, chronic hoarseness

Depending on your child’s age, a speech evaluation may include a combination of formal testing and informal conversation and play. Our approach to speech therapy, like other rehabilitation programs, involves the family. It’s crucial to the success of your child that you take an active role, and we’ll guide you every step of the way

Services we offer:

  • Aphasia therapy
  • Cognitive-linguistic retraining
  • Oral-motor therapy
  • Paradoxical vocal fold dysfunction
  • Pediatric feeding evaluations and treatment
  • Stuttering therapy (disfluency)
  • Swallowing exercises, programs and retraining
  • Therapeutic exercises
  • VitalStim® therapy for swallowing

Feeding therapy

Feeding therapy begins with a thorough oral-motor and therapeutic feeding evaluation. Our specialized therapists teach ways to improve manipulation of food in the mouth, offer suggestions and changes to your mealtime routine and feeding equipment, and provide behavior strategies to improve eating at home.
