A Timeless Gift to Elevate Senior Care

The Center for Healthy Senior Living at Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center has been a reliable go-to for grateful patient Donald Kuspit since he moved to the area from New York more than five years ago. Donald was so impressed with the compassionate care he received that he recently made a $200,000 gift to support the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the medical center.

Donald’s gift will help support the recruitment of a registered nurse and has already funded the creation of two new patient rooms, ensuring the Center for Healthy Senior Living can expand and better improve patient needs. As a result of the new patient rooms, wait times for appointments have been cut in half, to less than three weeks.

“I was very well treated there. The doctors are very attentive and considerate,” says Donald, who is a renowned art historian and art critic.

"Mr. Kuspit's most generous gift has been so impactful, as it has allowed us to add additional examination rooms to improve access to care for our patients," says Manisha Parulekar, M.D, FACP, AGSF, CMD, director of the Division of Geriatrics, co-director for the Center for Memory Loss and Brain Health and associate professor, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. "His gift is also enabling us to add a registered nurse to our team, a valuable resource for our patients and their families. We are so grateful for his support!"

Donald credits geriatrician Soo-Chong Kim, M.D., and other team members at the Center for Healthy Senior Living, for the quality care he receives and said he hopes that the donation will focus more attention on what an important resource the center is for the area’s aging population.

“I’m happy to support them and I will continue to do so,” he says.

Board-certified geriatric specialists help older adults manage the aging process and maximize independence, functionality and quality-of-life. Services provided at the center range from wellness, prevention and primary care to specialized hospital, home and hospice care.

Hackensack University Medical Center is nationally recognized as an Age-Friendly Health System for providing comprehensive care to seniors, and our researchers at Hackensack Meridian Health are leading research on cognitive conditions, trauma and medication management in older adults.

We thank Donald for his generosity and improving access to care. To learn more about how you can support the Division of Geriatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center, contact Richard Knupp, vice president, Development, North at richard.knupp@hmhn.org.
