A Heartfelt Appreciation for Cardiac Care

Foundation donor

Linda Flannery is a vibrant woman with a zest for life. Despite her healthy lifestyle, her relentless fevers and discomfort sent her on a journey through countless doctors appointments and battery of tests, all returning baffling results. However, Linda knew something wasn’t right.

It wasn’t until her cardiologist, after a series of comprehensive tests including a CT scan, a nuclear stress test and ultrasound, delivered shocking news: she quickly needed a cardiac catheterization to address a severe blockage discovered in her arteries. In April 2023, clinicians swiftly placed a stent to remedy a staggering 98% blockage. After having that done, her fevers and discomfort disappeared.

For Linda, it wasn’t just the medical intervention that left a lasting impression – it was the compassionate care she received from Cardiac Rehabilitation at Ocean University Medical Center. From the moment she entered the cardiac rehab unit, she was embraced by warmth and professionalism that transcended mere medical expertise.

“It was so wonderful,” recalls Linda. “My entire care team was so nice and compassionate. I really felt like I was being taken care of by my supportive family.”

When Linda received an Honor Your Caregiver mailing from Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation, Linda remembered the care she received and was compelled to give back in honor of her entire care team with a kind gift and lovely note:

“First, I want to say thank you for the caring and professional care you gave me. I enjoyed all the exercises and educational videos you explained so well. I also love all of the ‘yummy’ recipes you provided. When I completed my rehab, I felt like a new person again! I sure do miss all of you.”

Today, Linda is feeling wonderful and is enjoying her time exercising and walking, especially when the sun is out. “I owe it all to my care team at Ocean,” she says.

February marks American Heart Month, and we appreciate Linda’s kind gift in support of her caregivers at Johnson Rehabilitation Institute at Ocean University Medical Center.
