Fellowship Program Details

The JFK University Medical Center, Neuroscience Institute has fellowships in the areas of Clinical Neurophysiology, Sleep Medicine, Vascular Neurology, Neurocritical Care and Interventional Neurology. Please refer to each individual fellowship's section for information regarding the application procedure.


Clinical Neurophysiology

The ACGME-accredited Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship offers one position per year. The program is split 50-50 between Epilepsy/EEG and Neuromuscular Disorders/EMG. Fellows will rotate through epilepsy and neuromuscular clinics, perform EMG procedures, read EEGs and VEEGs.


Sleep Medicine

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary sleep medicine fellowship program including exposure to pediatric sleep disorders at the HMH-JFK Neuroscience Institute. It is primarily an outpatient based training program of one year duration with a system-based, evidence-based approach to patient care. It is accredited by the ACGME and leads to eligibility for the sleep medicine board certification exam administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Fellows benefit from our multidisciplinary sleep clinic with pulmonary and neurology sleep faculty to develop confidence and comfort level in the diagnosis and treatment of all various types of sleep disorders, including telehealth encounters. We have a state-of-the-art AASM accredited sleep lab with 6-beds enabling the fellows to gain expertise in the interpretation of various types of sleep studies, including special montages, actigraphy and home sleep tests. This is backed by a strong didactic curriculum to understand the physiology of sleep, pathophysiology of sleep disorders and sleep pharmacology with our established record of a high board pass rate.

HMH-JFK Medical Center is an interesting and stimulating learning environment with several GME programs onsite where there are opportunities to mentor rotating medical students and residents as well as engage in research and scholarly activity supported by resources like the Red cap coordinator and biostatisticians resulting in several research publications. Fellows gain exposure to all aspects of functioning of a sleep center and our graduates have successfully established careers as clinical practitioners or academicians or entrepreneurs, based on their personal professional goals. The fellowship upholds work life balance and social networking with house staff from the other on-site GME programs.

Vascular Neurology

The Vascular Neurology Fellowship at JFK University Medical Center offers rigorous training and a desirable suburban location with easy access to major public transportation, allowing for a balanced personal and professional life. This one-year fellowship program is accredited by the ACGME. Our Joint Commission-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center provides unparalleled clinical experience with a high volume and diverse patient population, exposing you to a wide range of complex vascular neurology cases. Benefit from strong mentorship by experienced vascular neurologists and subspecialty faculty in neurocritical care and neurointervention within a supportive learning environment.

Our comprehensive curriculum includes a dedicated fellow lecture series, enriching your educational experience and preparing you for a successful career. The program structure features six months of teaching rounds in our dedicated 12-bed stroke unit, a three-month neurocritical care unit rotation, and one month dedicated to research. Electives in stroke rehabilitation (in affiliation with Johnson Rehabilitation Hospital), neurointerventional surgery, and neurovascular ultrasound are also available.

Fellows are encouraged to participate in the education of neurology residents and medical students. It is also highly encouraged to participate in investigator-initiated research as well as the multi-center national clinical trials that our program participates in.


Neurocritical Care

The UCNS-accredited Neurocritical Care Fellowship offers two positions per year. The program involves close collaboration with neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, anesthesia critical care and pulmonary critical care for a comprehensive curriculum of Neurocritical Care.


Interventional Neurology

The UCNS-accredited Neurocritical Care Fellowship offers two positions per year. The program involves close collaboration with neurosurgery, neurology, neuroradiology, anesthesia critical care and pulmonary critical care for a comprehensive curriculum of Neurocritical Care.

The UCNS-accredited Interventional Neurology Fellowship offers one position per year. The program provides close mentorship between our neurology and neurosurgery trained neurointerventionalists to provide a comprehensive curriculum of Neurointervention.


Combined Track - 3 Fellowships

This combined program allows the fellow to complete Vascular Neurology, Neurocritical Care & Interventional Neurology in 4 years. The first year of the program focuses on Vascular Neurology followed by two years focused on Neurocritical Care. Fellows are involved in interventional procedures in the first three years to build the foundations for the final fourth year that focuses on neurointervention.
