Application Process - JSUMC Anesthesiology Residency

Applicants are urged to submit their completed applications early in September, when ERAS opens. This ensures prompt review of applications and facilitates early correspondence for those selected to interview with our program.

We will continue to accept applications until December 1st; however, candidates are urged to submit their applications in September. The ERAS website is available at https://www.aamc.org/services/eras/.

Our residency program application requirements are:

  • Register for a first-year residency position with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) (nrmp.org)
  • Complete an ERAS application (aamc.org/eras)
  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Recent Photo
  • Medical school transcripts
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), formerly known as the Dean’s Letter.

All applicants must complete FCS - CA3 years, even if they have prior PGY training.

Four letters of recommendation from supervising faculty who know you well and can comment in depth on your clinical work, achievement, leadership, personal qualities, and project contributions. At least two of these letters should be written by a faculty member in Anesthesiology.

USMLE and COMLEX transcripts. Candidates must request that the National Boards forward their scores via ERAS at the start of the application process.

A passing score on both the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 is required at the time of application submission. Pending scores will be accepted upon written notice. 

Osteopathic Applicants: A passing score on both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, as well as COMLEX 1 and 2 exams, is required at the time of application submission. Pending scores will be accepted upon written notice. 

ECFMG Status Report (international graduates only)

We do accept international graduates.

We do not anticipate sponsoring visas this academic year.

Candidates must be within five years of graduating from medical school at the time of matriculation into the residency program.

Personal interview

Candidates need to recognize that physicians matriculating into the Jersey Shore University Medical Center Anesthesiology Residency Program will be expected to:

Satisfactory completion of all of their medical school’s requirements, culminating in graduation from medical school in good standing:

  • Provide proof of graduation from medical school
  • Have ECFMG certification (if applicable)

Be eligible for a training permit as a resident physician in the State of New Jersey, as governed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.

Interview Season (2026 - 2027) Calendar of Events

Initial interview offers released: Early October

Invited applicants have 72 hours to accept or decline their interview invitation and schedule their appointment. Failure to respond after 72 hours will be considered a declined invitation, and the interview slot will be released to another candidate.

Conclusion of the season: Early January

Final rank list submission: Early February, as specified by the NRMP. 

Our certified rank list will be submitted by the deadline set by the NRMP to conclude our season. Applicants wishing to schedule an in-person second look can do so on or after the list submission date. Second looks are available Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. Please be aware that these second looks will only occur after the final rank list is submitted and do not affect the applicant rankings determined by the selection committee. Medical Students Rotations

MS3 Rotations

SGU and HMSOM MS3s may rotate within the program only during their Core-Surgery rotations at JSUMC. This rotation allows a 1-week “elective” rotation. If we do not have an existing program letter of agreement, MS3 rotations are not allowed. 

MS4 Rotations

SGU and HMSOM MS4s may rotate formally within the program for a month at JSUMC. Please contact UME at electiverequest.jsumc@hmhn.org for more information.

MS4s seeking a formal elective/sub-I rotation with our program must apply through Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO). Our application process should open by the end of April of every Spring cycle.
